Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
